What is a Matching Gift?
More than 1,000 businesses and companies in our community match charitable donations made by their employees and retirees. We would be happy to inquire about your company’s charitable giving policy. For more information, contact our development office at 203–588–9100 ext 124.
How do I initiate a Matching Gift?
Donors initiate the process by contacting their company's human resources department or corporate foundation for the appropriate forms. Donors receive credit from DVCC for both their original gift and the matching gift. The combined amount is recognized in DVCC’s Annual Report.
What is a Pledge?
A Pledge is a legally binding promise of a gift to be paid in completion by the end of the fiscal year (June 30). For some donors, a pledge gift makes it easier to manage the donation over a longer period of time. If you pledge for our fiscal year of July 1 to June 30, the development office will send reminders to ensure that your gift is recorded by fiscal year-end.
We encourage pledges made before November 30 as this allows DVCC to set the next fiscal budget with foreknowledge of anticipated funds.
How can I use appreciated securities as a gift?
Appreciated securities are sometimes considered when a donor wishes to take a tax deduction on the full value of the gift and avoid capital gains on the transfer. In many cases, the actual cost to the donor is far less than the value of the gift to the organization. For a stock transfer form, please contact DVCCs development office at 203–588–9100 ext 124.
What is Planned Giving?
Planned giving is the process of making a significant charitable gift during a donor’s life or at death that is part of his or her financial or estate plan. It can be a commitment of a gift at a certain level for a period of years, to a bequest in one’s will. For more information, please contact DVCCs development office at 203–588–9100 ext 124.
