DVCC Hosts Wellness Series for Clients
Many victims of intimate partner violence are so focused on trying to understand, survive and perhaps extricate themselves from an abusive relationship, they forget to look after their personal health and well-being. With that in mind, the DVCC is offering its clients Wellness Series Spring 2012, which includes three evening sessions of relaxation, serenity and peace and a fourth one that will provide advice on getting organized and de-cluttering.
In March, participants joined Yoga instructor Molly Morgan for a gentle, introductory Yoga class. Last month a group of clients spent an evening getting in touch with their inner beings, as Caroline Semple took them through meditation and relaxation techniques. The first May session will offer massage therapy and the second session in May will provide tips on getting organized.
"The women who attended are still talking about how uplifting and helpful the sessions were," said Nancy Berkowitz, a DVCC counselor advocate who organized the series. "Most of them have been too busy trying to survive, let alone taking the time to care for themselves. They are discovering that physical exercise and peace of mind help them see the world in a different light."
